Netanyahu: No Decision on Deportation for Alien Kids

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Monday evening that no decision had been made on the deportation of 1,200 children of illegal aliens. Following a meeting with Interior Minister Eli Yishai, Social Services Minister Yitzchak Herzog, Education Minister Gidon Sa'ar, Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz and Justice Minister Ya'akov Ne'eman, the prime minister said another meeting on the matter would be held in a few days.

Most ministers who attended the meeting said they expect the students to be deported at the end of the school year. Sa'ar said in the meanwhile, a comprehensive policy must be set. Herzog said the children were at risk and had to be handled regardless of their identity. Yishai wants them deported and said he would give up his cabinet post if the children were given legal status to stay.

Before the meeting, 40 of the children, accompanied by 10 adults, demonstrated in front of the Knesset for the right to stay.
