Congressmen: Investigate Intel Blunder on Iran Nukes

Two U.S. congressmen are demanding to know why the Director of U.S. National Intelligence testified that Iran had no secret enrichment facilities. In 2007, a U.S. National Intelligence Estimate claimed Iran was not seeking nuclear weapons, but current Defense Secretary Robert Gates admitted in recent media interviews that it is clear that Iran is intent on producing a nuclear weapon.

A recent Associated Press report disclosed that a classified internal International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) document admitted that Iran was in fact working to produce a nuclear bomb. A secret second secret Iranian enrichment facility, believed to be capable of producing weapons grade uranium, was recently discovered by Western security services hidden inside a mountain near the ancient city of Qom

Congressman Peter Hoekstra, ranking Republican on the Intelligence Committee is one of two U.S. congressmen demanding an investigation into the intelligence blunder. "The bottom line is we don't have perfect insight into exactly what's going on in Iran or what their capabilities are,” he said. An intelligence community analyst told Newsmax news service, “They tailored the intelligence to fit their political conclusions.”
