A brewing Muslim-Buddhist war in Thailand and Malaysia may attract al-Qaeda terrorists who will try to widen the conflict as part of its global Jihad strategy, according to the Saudi Gazette. The newspaper said that the fears of al-Qaeda’s entry in the struggle are unfounded so far, but Australian counterterrorism expert David Kilcullen, who has advised U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, noted that the terrorist organization tries to become involved in local conflicts.

 

Muslims from Malaysia are resentful of the Thai majority, made up of Buddhists, and want to separate from Thailand.
