Serial anti-Israel and anti-Jewish inciter Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the Islamic Movement's northern chapter, was arrested Tuesday night by Israeli police. Salah was nabbed in Jerusalem, and is being held on charges of incitement and rebellion against the state. He was detained on the roof of a building in the Wadi Joz neighborhood, surrounded by about 30 of his supporters.
Salah was arrested after numerous consultations between police and national security officials over the past several days. Salah is suspected to be a chief instigator of the tension and unrest in Jerusalem this week, as Arabs faced off with police several times, throwing rocks and bottles. Police said that Salah has been involved in anti-Israel incitement for "a long time." The police sought to ensure freedom of religion, a statement issued by police officials said Tuesday, but "we attempt to prevent radicals from breaking the rules."
