Sky, land and now sea. The Israel Navy plans to begin using automated “unmanned surface vehicles” to conduct a wide range of operational missions, including patrols of the Israeli coast. The crafts will likely be deployed off the coast of Gaza and perhaps even near the border with Lebanon.
The systems, some of which can carry a wide variety of payloads, including cameras, sensors and weapons, were developed by the Israeli Rafael company. The boats are operated by remote control from a land-based station and are said to be highly maneuverable.
Israeli military industries recently announced the development of an unmanned road vehicle for ferrying supplies in war zones. Israel is also a world leader in the developed of unmanned aerial drones.
