Monday's annual luncheon of the World Mizrachi movement in Jerusalem will feature a ceremony in which members will add the last letters of a Torah scroll which was written especially for the synagogue of the developing community in Bnei Netzarim, in the Chalutza area of the Negev. The facility is being billed as the first permanent synagogue for Gush Katif evictees.
Organizers of the event say the scroll was written last year by a resident of the Yevul community of evictees in the Eshkol Council region, who received an annual salary sponsored by the movement. "It was important to us that it was one of the evacuees that would write the scroll," said World Mizrachi Director General Solly Sacks on Sunday, adding "that is our small contribution in assisting another evacuee in finding a job."
