The current secular year, 2009, has been an excellent one for kosher restaurants in Israel, according to the restaurant website "2eat". The number of kosher restaurants of all types has shot up by over 20 percent since the beginning of the year, with many of the new eateries classified as "gourmet" restaurants.
According to the statistics, there were 1,387 kosher restaurants in Israel at the beginning of 2009, and as of October 1 of this year there were 1,688 – a rise of 22%.
