Every fifth child in Israel is delivered by a Caesarean Section operation, according to a report published in the Hebrew-language daily Haaretz. Over the past ten years, the rate has jumped by 46% from what it was ten years ago, when the rate stood at 13%, the report said.
Jerusalem's Bikur Holim and Shaare Tzedek hospitals, where approximately 10.5% of births were delivered were by C-section, had among the lowest rates for the operation among all hospitals in Israel, the report said – while there were numerous hospitals in the center of the country where as many as 1 in 4 deliveries were by C-section.
