New Home Sales Continue Slump

Housing sales fell for the second consecutive month, dropping 12 percent in August 2009 compared with July, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported. Down from 1,320 new home sales in July, 1,160 new homes were sold in August with 1,100 of them still under construction. Half of the new homes sold had been on the market for six months.

New homes sold in January-August totaled 9,340, down from 12,830 new homes sold in 2008 and 13,570 sold in 2007. The worst month of 2009 was February when only 870 new homes were sold.
