Britain plans to send a thousand more troops to Afghanistan. This will bring its total troop deployment there to 10,000. The move will be made in conjunction with the US army and NATO.
The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal recently said that the US was in danger of losing the war if more troops were not sent soon. Arizona Sen. John McCain, who has urged Obama to send more troops to Afghanistan, said Tuesday, "I've never seen a disconnect like this between the military leadership and the White House on an issue." Afghanistan is believed to be a breeding ground for Islamic terrorists.
