Iran has invested billions of dollars in rehabilitating Lebanese terror organization Hizbullah since its 2006 war on Israel, according to a senior Israel Defense Forces officer cited Thursday by Ynet. The officer spoke at the end of a five-day exercise simulating a war on Israel's northern border.
He said that while the Shi'ite organization is still intent on gaining revenge for the death of arch terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, for which it blames Israel, any act against an Israeli target is likely to take place somewhere else in the world. He noted that rocket attacks against Hizbullah since the 2006 war have been carried out by other groups, which Hizbullah has not been able to stop.
According to an officer quoted by Haaretz, Hizbullah has been weakened in southern Lebanon by activities of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and operates freely only in Shi'ite areas. The objection of people in other areas grew with the explosion this summer of a munitions dump that had contained chemical weapons.
