Human Rights Watch, which is critical of Israel, suspended senior military analyst Marc Garlasco Monday night, pending an investigation into revelations that he is an avid collector of Nazi memorabilia, according to the New York Times. Garlasco is the author of a report alleging the IDF used white phosphorus munitions in Gaza.
When word of his hobby came out on a blog last week, the organization issued a statement of support which said that Garlasco “has never held or expressed Nazi or anti-Semitic views.”
Carroll Bogert, the group’s associate director, said at the time that Garlasco's work had been “extensively reviewed, lawyered, scrutinized, pulverized by our program and legal staff, and we have not in six years ever had cause to question his professional judgment.” Following Monday's decision, she said, “We have questions about whether we have learned everything we need to know.”
