Israelis seem to have the strangest places to hide their cash. A Sderot resident looking for a hiding place for NIS 80,000 (over $21,000) in cash chose to conceal them in four gasmask kits that were stored in the closet, Ynet reports. However, he didn’t expect that his family members would diligently return the gasmasks to the Home Front as part of the IDF’s nationwide campaign to collect the gasmasks nearly a year ago.
On Wednesday, Ramleh police received a phone call from the gasmask collection center that one of the gasmask kits contained NIS 26,000 ($6,864) in cash. The kits have a barcode, which aided the police to track down the citizen, who was previously unaware of the missing cash. “When we spoke with the man, he explained that he hid other money in three additional boxes,” Dep. Police Commander Eli Musari said, adding that he hopes that the other three boxes will be found.
