German special forces made history recently when they trained in Israel, according to a Monday evening report by Channel 2 television.

The GSG9 forces trained at their Israeli counterparts' facilities in the areas of forced entry and taking over of buildings, sniping, desert orienteering and dealing with terrorists, including hostage situations. Also taking part was a German helicopter unit.

The exercises were made possible by a close relationship between the heads of the Israeli and German special forces. Not overlooked was Germany's refusal to let Israeli forces take part in attempts to rescue Israeli athletes who were kidnapped and murdered by terrorists at the 1972 Olympic games in Munich.
