Water consumption in Israeli homes in August was 61.2 million cubic meters, according to figures from the Ministry of National Infrastructures. The figure is about 13 million cubic meters down from the 74 million recorded in 2008, a savings of more than 17 percent.

The ministry expressed satisfaction at the reduction, which it attributed to recently initiated expensive rates for excess water use.
