Those who did not want him on the Supreme Court may have to accept him as Attorney General. Justice Minister Yaakov Ne’eman has reportedly chosen Jerusalem District Court Justice Noam Solberg as his choice for the position of Israel’s Attorney General. The name has been in the news as Soldberg was recently turned down for a position on Israel’s Supreme Court because his views did not coincide enough with those of the court’s chief justice, Dorit Beinish.
Solberg has served as an assistant to a number of Attorney Generals, including Elyakim Rubinstein, Michael Ben-Yair and Yosef Harish, and as such, was involved in the decision-making process in a number of major high-profile cases.
While the search committee will present Neeman with three additional possible candidates for the position, Solberg is considered to be the leading contender. Soldberg is an observant Jew and lives in Gush Etzion.
