An Israeli soldier was very lightly wounded in the head Monday afternoon by shrapnel from one of two mortar shells fired by terrorists in the northern part of Hamas-controlled Gaza. The shells came down next to a kibbutz in the Ashkelon Coast Council region. Yesha News reports that soldier was hit as he sought cover. He was treated at the kibbutz infirmary. Nana10 reports that two soldiers were lightly injured while seeking cover at an army base in the area.

Before the attack, troops fired at three subjects involved in suspicious activity near the security fence opposite Kibbutz Zikim in northern Gaza. Gaza sources report one dead. The others escaped.
