Pride in the American immigrant community was high Monday after one of its own has been chosen for a position on Israel’s Supreme Court. Justice Neal Hendel of the Be'er Sheva District Court was chosen for the position on Sunday. In all, the Judicial Appointments Committee selected three new appointments for the Supreme Court: one left-wing candidate – Uzi Fogelman, one religious candidate – Neal Hendel and one compromise candidate – Yitzhak Amit.
Hendel is originally from New York and studied at New York University and Hofstra Law School. He also used to attend Rabbi Soloveitchik’s classes at Yeshiva University. He made aliyah in 1983 and has been a judge since 1988.
