Health Ministry: More Doctors Needed

The Health Ministry published statistics Wednesday confirming fears that more doctors are needed in Israel. In 2008, there were 3.5 doctors per 1,000 people as compared to 2000, when there were 3.7 doctors per 1,000 citizens.

In addition, only 606 new doctors were licensed in Israel in 2008 compared with 898 who were licensed in 2000. There has also been a dramatic decline in the number of doctors immigrating to Israel.
