Danon Says Shepherd's Hotel Visit Makes Statement

Member of Knesset Danny Danon, who is expected to accompany a group of United States Senators on a visit to the Shepherd's Hotel in Jerusalem on Monday, said on Sunday that the visit sends a sharp and profound message to U.S. President Barack Obama, that the Republican party group supports Jewish holdings in the eastern part of the capital and that the president has no claim against construction in the area.

The World Likud leader said another message is that the American people see Israel in a good light in its fight against the Arabs, as reflected by the presence of Senator Mike Huckabee, who is not only leading the group but leading popularity polls. Danon also said that Obama's failure to bring the Palestinian Authority back to the negotiating table is in line with his failure on the domestic front, and Israel must present a tough, clear stance on Jerusalem, as well as on Judea and Samaria.

Danon said he and his associates would work to present pressure from the right to counter pressure from the American left in order to prevent the government from being carried away to the left.
