Bucking a trend in which several Mks on Tuesday called for the release of arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti, MK Moshe Matalon (Yisrael Beiteinu) said that Barghouti should continue serving his five life sentences, because he deserved to be in prison.

Calling out to Mks who advocated releasing the terrorist – particularly Kadima Mks Gideon Ezra and Avishai Braverman – Matalon called on "the liberals in the Knesset to refrain from making statements which make us seem weak to the Fatah terrorists, who just a few days ago informed us without shame that they will refuse to negotiate with us, and will not give up on the idea of making Jerusalem their capital. On what basis do these Mks believe Barghouti should be released from an Israeli prison?," Matalon asked rhetorically.
