The Israel Defense Forces announced on Thursday that Central Command chief Gad Shamni will become Israel's military attache in Washington. Replacing him will be the commander of land forces, Avi Mizrachi. Outgoing Golan formation commander Sami Turgeman will take Mizrachi's place.

The assignments follow the recent decision to nominate the current attache in the United States, Benny Gantz to Deputy Chief of Staff, making him a candidate to replace Gabi Ashkenazi when his term ends.

Reacting to Shamni's new assignment, Hevron's Jews said, "After two years in which Shamni acted to advance the interests of the United States in Israel, perhaps the time has really come for him to advance the interests of Israel in the United States."
