Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said on Sunday, "I don't believe that there can be another expulsion" like the 2005 Disengagement when almost 10,000 Jews were uprooted from Gaza and northern Samaria by the Israeli government. His comment came in response to a question after he toured the Gush Katif Museum in Jerusalem.
Rivlin explained, "We came here full of faith that this is our land. We have to grasp the faith that all of Israel is our land. The expulsion from Gush Katif brought no advantage." He added, "I can quote people who were responsible for the expulsion who said there would never be another one."
Asked about the current construction freeze in Judea and Samaria, Rivlin said, "I know the stances of those who stand at the head of the Israeli government and I know that they believe Zion is all ours. One must remember that there are pressures. I believe that things will fall into place. It's a belief but it's not always fulfilled."
