Approximately 20 people were arrested on Saturday night during a demonstration against the opening of the Carta garage on the Sabbath. Most of those arrested were detained as they attempted to block the entrance to the garage.
A police officer was lightly wounded during the rally when he was bitten by a protester.
The hareidi-religious community in Jerusalem has held weekly demonstrations for the past several weeks over the municipality's decision to open a parking lot near the Old City on the Sabbath. Protesters believe that the opening of the garage encourages Jews to desecrate the Sabbath.
