Hareidim to Intensify Fight against Shabbat Parking Lot

The hareidi-religious community intends to intensify its struggle against the opening on Shabbat of the Carta parking lot near the Jaffa Gate entrance to Jerusalem's Old City, according to a Friday report by Army Radio. While non-Jewish labor is used to run the lot, its opening encourages travel by Jews who do not observe the Biblical ban on travel during the Sabbath.

Rabbi Yosef Rosenfeld, who heads the Committee for Shabbat, has repeated his call for demonstrators not to get violent. Police are prepared to prevent demonstrators from getting close to the parking lot on Saturday night at the conclusion of Shabbat.
