Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman urged the United Nations to implement heavy sanctions against Iran over its continued development of its nuclear program when the world body convenes in September. Speaking to Argentinian cabinet chief Anibal Fernandez, Lieberman said that Iran was "a regime that denies the Holocaust and fires at citizens who hold a legitimate protest," and that "it must lose its legitimacy in the world and in every international forum."
While in Argentina, Lieberman also urged Argentinian parliamentarians to approve Israel's inclusion in the Mercusor regional trade agreement, which will allow Israel to conduct free international trade with Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
