At a meeting last week of the joint Israel-Palestinian Authority (PA) Postal Committee, PA representatives announced their intention to separate from Israel’s mail service and have Jordan handle its international mail, according to Globes. The switch is subject to a commercial agreement between the PA and Jordan.
Currently, mail to and from the PA passes through Israel. Annex III (Civil Affairs) of the Israeli-PA Interim Agreement on Judea, Samaria and Gaza (Yesha) signed in Washington on September 1995 gives the PA the right to strike a deal with Jordan and transfer their mail service.
