Turkish President Abdullah Gul rejected on Friday a recent suggestion that the international community set a deadline for PA-Israel negotiations and the PA should be accepted by the UN as a full member if an agreement is not reached. Gul’s comments came during an opening ceremony for a new PA embassy in Akara, Turkey attended by Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, that was reported by the Turkish daily Hurriyet.

"Turkey, at every occasion, supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state whose capital is east Jerusalem, but we believe in order to reach such a result, doing something without the consent of important actors will bring no benefits," said Gul about the recently suggested plan by EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana. "This could even turn out to be harmful," he added.
