Child Allowance Link to Vaccinations Rejected

A proposal in the 2009-10 Economic Arrangements Bill to link increases in child allowances with vaccinations was rejected by the Knesset Finance Committee until the end of 2010. Committee chairman MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) requested the move following the committee’s Tuesday approval of the linkage by a majority vote.

Gafni said that the link, which would make children’s allowances conditional on being vaccinated, was difficult to implement. He mentioned that many sectors demanded the postponement, and that an alternative incentive for parents to vaccinate their children was being sought.
