Goldstone: UN Report Will be "Balanced"

The head of a U.N. Human Rights Commission inquiry told Channel One Saturday night that the report he was preparing on Operation Cast Lead will be "balanced." Richard Goldstone, whose committee has been interviewing dozens of people, mostly UN employees and Gaza Arabs, also interviewed several Israelis, including abducted IDF soldier Gilad Shalit's father Noam. Shalit will definitely be mentioned in the report, Goldstone said.

In response to a question on why the UN waited until Operation Cast Lead to open a probe into the situation and did not investigate the incessant rocket attacks by Gaza Arabs against Israeli towns in the Negev, Goldstone said that Israel had not requested such an investigation at the UN.
