For the first time, Israel has advanced to the semi-finals of the Davis Cup tennis championship. Israeli tennis stars Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich beat Russia in three matches over the weekend in Tel Aviv. The next leg in the championship takes place in September, with Israel playing either Germany or Spain, depending on the outcome of other matches.

Meanwhile, Israeli athlete Dima Kreuter, 16, won on Saturday night a gold medal in the high jump competition at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Youth Championships being held in Italy.
