Computer giant Intel has threatened to close its plant in Kiryat Gat in 2013 if it does not get a grant to expand the facility, according to a government sources close to the negotiations who were cited Tuesday in the Haaretz business publication The Marker.

The sources say if the grant is approved, Intel will continue to employ about 1,600 workers until 2016, after which the staff will gradually be reduced. The company said it would not discuss things under negotiation.
