      Foreign Workers Protest Enforcement Plan

Foreign workers protested in Tel Aviv on Saturday night over a plan to enforce immigration laws and expel those present in Israel illegally. Protestors bore signs saying, “we are all immigrants,” “Tel Aviv, city of refuge,” and “There are no illegal children.”

Several demonstrators argued that illegal immigrants to Israel should not be deported if they have children living in the country.

Immigration police announced last week that they would begin a campaign aimed at reducing the number of foreign citizens living illegally in Israel. An estimated 250,000 illegal workers currently reside in Israel.

Police said they would treat illegal immigrants well, and would assist those who agree to leave willingly.
