A joint project between Israel and Japan is working on a novel way for treating sewage waste in Palestinian Authority (PA) villages, according to JPost. Electric free, the system employs man-made pools, or wetlands, and plants that facilitate the organic breakdown of the sewage. The treated sewage will be used for various agricultural applications and prevent aquifer pollution.
The project is being funded by the Japanese government and overseen by Israeli engineer Arnon Goren and former Tel Aviv city council member Hadas Shachnai. The Israeli Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria said it hopes to see the system used in many other PA villages, and the Israeli Army is considering using it at some of its bases.
