Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat stated that he is unconcerned about threats on his life. Barkat recently received threatening letters due to his decision to open the Karta Municipal Parking Lot on the Sabbath.
During a visit to the capital’s pubs, Barak reiterated that the Karta Parking Lot would remain open on the Sabbath. Hareidi-religious protestors previously stated that the municipality’s opening a parking lot on the Sabbath is a violation of a Status Quo agreement to preserve the sanctity of the Sabbath in the holy city and capital of the Jewish People.
