The Ometz movement for quality government is asking Attorney General Menachem Mazuz and State Prosecutor Moshe Lador to investigate ties between former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and former Treasurer Avraham Hirschson, in the wake of the five-year prison sentence given Hirschson last week on charges of embezzling money from the Israel National Workers Union. In letters to the two, Ometz cites its own investigations and those by the media.
On Arutz 7's Hebrew journal, Ometz chairman Aryeh Avneri spoke on Sunday of a volume of suspicions arising from the Olmert-Hirschson connection. According to one of those allegations, tens of thousands of shekels from the union were used as loans for Olmert's campaign to be mayor of Jerusalem and never repaid.
