Chairman Baruch Marzel of the Jewish National Front sharply attacked police Thursday evening for not allowing the organization's activists to bring two donkeys to a demonstration against the Jerusalem Open House organization, which sponsored the homosexual pride parade in the capital during the afternoon. Marzel claims that freedom of expression is not just intended for Open House people and called the restriction a "blow to democracy".
An anti-parade activist was detained for questioning after throwing an egg at a group of people making their way to the site where the parade started. Otherwise the event was without incident as Mayor Nir Barkat and most of the hareidi opponents of the parade stayed away, allowing thousands to take part in the event. Hundreds of hareidim demonstrated and burned trash containers in the Mea Shearim neighborhood.
