At a meeting on Wednesday Senior officials from the Lebanese Armed Forces, the Israeli army and U.N. peacekeeping force UNIFIL addressed the prospects of an Israeli withdrawal from the border village of Ghajar. "UNIFIL presented a proposal to facilitate the withdrawal of the [Israeli army] from the northern side of Ghajar," said UNIFIL Spokesperson Yasmina Bouziane according to The Daily Star.

"We are hopeful there will be an understanding on the proposal," she added, saying the Lebanese authorities had indicated their approval of it. Israel has maintained a presence in Ghajar since 1967 when it pushed back attacking Syrian troops and captured the Golan Heights.
