The Knesset on Monday passed the first reading of a bill called the Slomiansky Law because it would return Nissan Slomianksy to the Knesset, following the anticipated resignation of Science Minister Daniel Hershkowitz. The bill now goes to a committee for fine tuning, ahead of second and third readings.

The law, also known as the Norwegian law after which it is modelled, allows a minister to quit and be replaced in the Knesset by the next in line on the party's list from the elections.
