The cabinet on Sunday approved the nomination of Yair Geller as chairman of the Authority to Fight Drug Abuse.
The women's lobby appealed the nomination, saying a woman should be named to the position. Member of Knesset Miri Regev (Likud) said the nomination ignored a Supreme Court decision and a law about the adequate level of female representation in public service. She referred to the opening as a chance for the government to make up for indadequate representation for women.
