Sentencing in the embezzlement case against former Treasurer Avraham Hirschson is scheduled for next week, following a hearing Thursday in Tel Aviv District Court. Hirschson was convicted two weeks ago of taking millions of shekels from the Histadrut National Workers' Organization when he was chairman.
Prosecutors are seeking a seven-year prison sentence, claiming that Hirschson should serve more time than central prosecution witness Ovadiah Cohen. Hirschson's son Elroi begged for clemency, saying jail time would be like a death sentence for his father.
