Al Qaida’s American spokesman revealed his Jewish roots, saying that his grandfather encouraged him to visit Israel and meet his relatives there. On a video released on an Islamic website on Saturday, Adam Gadahn, also known as Azzam al-Amriki explained his converting to Islam and denouncing Zionism, a movement that his grandfather strongly supported.

Gadhan was charged with treason by the U.S. in 2006. Since 2004, the FBI has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest. He is the first American to be charged with treason, a capital offense, in 50 years.
