Police on Sunday will unveil its newly acquired bulletproof vehicle, the "Sandcat Jeep." The vehicle, to be used mostly by border police on patrol in peripheral areas, replaces jeeps that have been in use for the past several years that have suffered significant damage in day to day operations, requiring large expenditures on upkeep. Each new jeep will cost NIS 600,000. Police have ordered forty of the vehicles, which are made by Indian automaker Sasa.

"We searched for a vehicle with a high level of defense, easy handling, safety features, and a vehicle that was 'forgiving' of drivers' mistakes," said Meir Ron of the Police Logistical Center in Beit Dagan. "The Sandcat fulfills most of our needs," he added.
