(IsraelNN.com) Yad Vashem expressed their shock of the “appalling” shooting at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev spoke to his U.S. counterpart, Sara Bloomfield , to express his support, and deep empathy, to her and all the Museum staff and offered any help he could provide.

Yad Vashem stated in a press statement on Thursday that the shooting “was the work of an anti-Semitic white supremacist, who obviously understood the symbolism of the target he chose.” Yad Vashem spokesperson Iris Rosenberg additionally stated that the museum is dedicated to educating against this kind of hate. “His target makes this shooting that much more heinous,” the spokesperson stated.
