In response to the deadly shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, the president of a major American synagogue organization stated that the shootings “serve as a sobering reminder that hatred and bigotry still exist in our neighborhoods and communities.”
National Council of Young Israel President Shlomo Z. Mostofsky, Esq. said that the gunman’s choice of shooting at a Holocaust memorial “single-handedly undermined the virtues and ideals that the memorial was established to promote.”
In light of the shooting in the U.S. capital, Young Israel urges synagogues “to remain vigilant” and to conduct a security review to ensure that the safety of their congregants remains top priority.
