Unidentified gunmen opened fire on Israel Defense Forces patrolling the security fence at the Gaza border Thursday morning. The troops returned fire but could not confirm if any were hit. No soldiers were injured.
The attack comes a day after a meeting of the political-security cabinet in which it was agreed that the IDF must respond to all attacks from Gaza. The cabinet was convened to discuss a recent incident where IDF troops killed four Gaza terrorists trying to cross into Israel to launch an attack on a nearby Israeli community and abduct IDF soldiers.
