U.S. President Barack Obama issued a directive to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday to reassess Israel’s military strength. The purpose of the assessment is to determine which weapons the U.S. can sell to Israel’s neighbors.
The directive reads, “The President shall carry out an empirical and qualitative assessment on an ongoing basis of the extent to which Israel possesses a qualitative military edge over military threats to Israel.” The U.S. provides Egypt with significant quantities of arms each year.
