The Land of Israel Legal Forum asked the chief of staff and the chief rabbi of the Israel Defense Forces on Sunday to investigate the destruction of two buildings at the Samarian Jewish outpost community of Shevut Ami, which was carried out during the middle of the Shavuot holiday on Friday and shortly after the end of the Sabbath on Saturday night, in violation of regulations. In a letter to the chief of staff, forum attorney Roi Azrad wrote that the preparations for the Saturday night operation and transport of the troops to the area were made before the end of Shabbat, in full view of Shevut Ami residents.
The forum is seeking disciplinary action against officers or others involved in the desecration of the Sabbath in violation of military regulations. It notes not only this incident, but similar occurences in January and October 2008.
