Looking to encourage and strengthen biotechnology start-ups in Jerusalem, the EU has decided to help finance a biotechnology incubator in the city and add it to a chain of incubators that includes the Oxford Science Park in Britain, the Bio-M in Munich, Germany, the Genopole in Paris, and the Consortium 21 in Sardinia, Italy. Speaking at a Hadassah College of Technology conference, the plan was announced by Dan Kaufman of the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies.
According to Kaufman, the consortium of incubators has a budget of $2.5 million, with $500,000 allotted for the project in Jerusalem. The involved companies get access to the different incubators, exposure to financial sources, regulation and patent consultation, help from technology experts, and business development.
