Smugglers have been working increasingly harder to bring arms into Gaza, according to a report in Wednesday’s Lebanese Al-Akhbar paper. According to the report, Egypt has stepped up anti-smuggling operations and uncovered five smuggling tunnels in the last week alone. On Monday, authorities uncovered a weapons cache of 80 shells, 20 rockets, and ammunition intended for Gaza.
According to the Lebanese paper, the smugglers recently held a joint “conference” to discuss ways of overcoming the Egyptian effort. The smugglers emphasized the need to dig longer tunnels and more heavily conceal and protect the entrance to the tunnels.
